Why The Serve Stand

Why The Serve Stand

Bridges the Gap Between Shadow Swings and Real Serves

That transition from shadow swings to hitting is simply difficult and can often keep players stuck with their serve transformation

There are two main reasons why this transition is so difficult:

1) When you introduce the toss you now need to coordinate 2 primary body movements

2) Your attention instinctively goes to the ball once you introduce the toss

This is much more difficult to coordinate and can easily throw off your entire serve.

Your attention instinctively goes to the ball once you introduce the toss. However, this means that your attention also goes away from your hitting arm and executing your new technique.

At the same time, your subconscious mind only cares about making a good connection with the ball that is up in the air.
To achieve that, it relies on old habits and all the work you've put into your new technique seems to disappear.

To help players overcome this difficult problem we now built the OTI Serve Stand.

It gives you a stationary ball to hit — so you can finally experience hitting with your new serve technique but without having to coordinate the toss and the hit at the same time just yet.

Build Muscle Memory: Anywhere, Anytime

This creates the perfect step in between a shadow swing and a regular serve, something that’s nearly impossible to achieve without the Serve Stand. You will quickly experience how good it feels to hit with your new serve technique which will give you confidence and most importantly develop new muscle memory.
Maybe you have seen coaches toss the ball for players on YouTube… Now, with the Serve Stand, you don’t need a coach to give you the perfect toss during practice. You don’t even need court time. You can isolate the motion and build the correct new muscle memory on your own

After you've experienced hitting with the Serve Stand for awhile, it will then become a lot easier to also introduce the toss and then combine your new technique with your toss.

This happens because by then you've built up new muscle memory for the new technique already.
If you're familiar with us, you know that practicing away from the tennis court is something we highly recommend for developing new technique. Therefore, when developing the Serve Stand, we put a lot of emphasis on developing a device that you can set up and use almost anywhere.

Fix Common Flaws with a Smarter Approach

You can set it up and use it in your driveway, backyard, or even indoors in a gym for example with a high ceiling. It works great with soft balls too, so indoor practice is totally safe. And it truly is for players at any level.
You can use the Serve Stand to overcome any of the common technical problems on your serve.

Struggling with the open racket face, also known as the waiter’s tray serve? A low elbow? A back to front arm action… Or maybe a bent arm at contact?

The Serve Stand will be effective in helping you overcome any of these common serve problems because it allows you to isolate the motion and repeat the correct movement pattern again and again while hitting a ball!

This allows you to develop new muscle memory and then it will be a lot easier to execute this correctly when you add the toss back in and hit full serves.

Set Up in Minutes, Use It Everywhere

The Serve Stand was designed to be simple and flexible.

Setup the first time takes a little, and after that, it takes only minutes, and requires no tools or special skills.

Once you’ve done it once or twice, it becomes second nature—you’ll be training in minutes whenever you want. Plus, you can use it almost anywhere: your driveway, backyard, or even indoors with soft balls.

Whether it’s at home or in the gym, the Serve Stand fits right into your routine without the hassle.

The Serve Stand Is Powerful, But With Expert Guidance, It’s Unstoppable

The training aid alone is effective but to get optimal results you also need to understand the most important technical elements and need to know how to use the Serve Stand correctly.

That’s why Gregg produced a bonus video series for the Serve Stand, including a 5-week downloadable practice plan.

With the Bonus Series you will receive a series of bonus videos showing you how to get the most out of your serve stand and the key stroke fundamentals you need to ingrain to accompany your training.

1. Introduction

Learn what the OTI serve stand is designed for and how you can best set it up and use it to transform your serve!

2. Long axis rotation (Supination/Pronation – External/Internal Shoulder Rotation)

Leading with the edge and pronating through contact while the shoulder internally rotates. This movement from the drop to contact generates about 40% of your serve power. The Serve Stand helps you feel the proper sequence and engage both the shoulder and forearm together for true power and clean pronation.

3. Right to left

From the half-serve position, focus on bending the elbow with the palm down so the racket passes between the ear and the elbow — this gives you that “cobra” position. The Serve Stand allows you to repeat this slowly and get into those positions without rushing.

4. Tossing Arm Reactive Break

Your tossing arm controls your rotation. As you drive your legs and uncoil the body, pull the tossing elbow into your stomach. This action-reaction creates whip and aligns your energy toward the target. Keep the tossing arm on the hitting side of the body and feel the hitting arm take its place as you strike through the Serve Stand ball.

5. Coiling and uncoiling the body (and timing)

As you complete your right-to-left move, begin to bend the knees and coil down. From there, transfer the weight forward, extend, and uncoil into the shot. The Serve Stand lets you repeat that coil-uncoil rhythm and get the timing just right.

6. Keeping your head still

Train yourself not to follow the ball. When your eyes move, your head moves, which throws off balance and the swing. Use the Serve Stand to keep staring at where the ball was until it returns. This helps you stabilize the head and maintain a solid axis through contact.

7. Serve rhythm

Find your serve rhythm. Begin slowly to control the toss, medium as you bend from the elbow, then accelerate fast as you come up from the drop. The Serve Stand makes it easy to feel the swing build naturally.

8. Serve toss and toss target drill

If your toss is inconsistent, focus on a straight lift from the shoulder with no spin or wrist action. The Serve Stand acts as your toss target, it represents your contact point and shows you whether you’re releasing too early or too late.

9. Jumping

Set the Serve Stand so that when you’re on your toes, the racket tip just meets the ball. The Serve Stand helps you coordinate the timing of lift and contact before moving to full serves.

10. Different spins

Use the Serve Stand to work on all three serve types. For the flat serve, lead with the edge and pronate a little earlier, hitting more through the back of the ball. For the slice, hit slightly off-center on the right edge and pronate through or carve the ball. For the kick, brush up from about 7 to 2 o’clock. Adjust the stand height and position to feel each contact.

11. Transitioning to serving with a ball

Once you’re ready to add the ball, begin with the pronation drill near the service line, then go to a half-serve with the racket tip to the right, and finally a full serve. Keep the racket slightly open to stay relaxed and make it easier to keep the face closed.

Do I Need a Court to Use It?

Not at all. The Serve Stand works great on a tennis court, but you don’t need one to train effectively.

You can set it up at home, in your driveway, backyard, or even indoors with soft balls. It’s built for maximum flexibility, so whether you want to practice privately at home or get reps in on the court, you’ll be able to train whenever and wherever it works best for you.
